Profile
The Sri Swarnakarshana Gnana Bhairavar Kovil (also widely known as the Bhairava Hindu Temple) is a unique spiritual landmark located at 450 Taunton Road East in Oshawa. It holds the distinction of being one of the only temples in the Western Hemisphere dedicated primarily to Lord Swarnakarshana Bhairavar, a benevolent form of Lord Shiva associated with the attraction of wealth, gold, and abundance (“Swarna” meaning gold, “Akarshana” meaning attraction). Unlike the more common fierce (“Ugra”) manifestations of Bhairava, the presiding deity here is worshipped in a peaceful (“Satvik”) form, making the temple a specialized destination for devotees seeking relief from financial debts and economic hardships. The facility offers a serene environment for daily worship and is particularly active during Theipirai Ashtami (waning moon eighth day), a highly auspicious time for Bhairava poojas, drawing devotees from across the Greater Toronto Area to participate in these powerful rituals.
