Profile
Located in the Township of Uxbridge at the peak of the Oak Ridges Moraine, Durham Regional Forest is a sprawling 596-hectare (1,473-acre) conservation area renowned for its diverse ecosystem and year-round recreation. Managed by the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority, the forest is a blend of mixed hardwood areas and conifer plantations that were originally reforested in the 1920s to combat soil erosion. Today, it serves as a premier destination for outdoor enthusiasts, offering over 16 kilometers of primary trails divided into four marked loops, plus numerous secondary paths. Visitors frequent the “Main Tract” for mountain biking, hiking, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing, with the trail network connecting to major systems like the Oak Ridges Trail and the Trans Canada Trail. Its rolling topography and commitment to sustainable forest management make it a vital natural sanctuary within the Durham Region.
