Ocala Winery & Orchards, located just outside of Port Perry in the Scugog area, is a historic “hidden gem” and holds the distinction of being the only operating vineyard in the Durham Region. Established in 1912 as a dairy farm, the property evolved into an orchard in the late 1970s and opened as a licensed winery in 1995. Today, it spans approximately 75 acres of rolling hills within the Oak Ridges Moraine, featuring over 3,500 apple trees and several varieties of cold-hardy grapes. The winery is housed in a beautifully restored century-old board and beam dairy barn, where visitors can enjoy tastings of more than 30 varieties of estate-grown fruit and grape wines, as well as non-alcoholic juices. Known for its rustic charm, Ocala is a popular destination for seasonal fruit picking, community events like “AppleFest,” and intimate weddings held in its scenic “Durham Room” or amidst the picturesque orchards.
