Profile
B’Nai Shalom V’Tikvah (BSvT) is the pioneer Reform Jewish congregation in the Durham Region, established in 1994 to provide a dedicated spiritual and community home for Reform Jews. Based in Ajax, the synagogue is known for its inclusive, family-oriented atmosphere, welcoming interfaith families and the LGBTQ2+ community. The congregation gathers for Shabbat and High Holiday services at St. Paul’s United Church (65 Kings Crescent), reflecting a long-standing and warm relationship with the local church. Meaning “Children of Peace and Hope,” BSvT offers diverse programming including a Hebrew school, adult education, and social events like the “Latke Challenge.” Beyond its religious services, the congregation is active in social action, recently partnering with the Town of Whitby to sponsor and house a Ukrainian refugee family.
