The Robert McLaughlin Gallery in Oshawa is the largest public art gallery in the Durham Region, known for its outstanding collection of modern and contemporary Canadian art. Founded in 1967 and housed in a striking modernist building designed by renowned architect Arthur Erickson, the gallery features a permanent collection of over 4,000 works, including the world’s most significant holdings by the abstract group Painters Eleven. Beyond exhibitions, the RMG offers vibrant community programming, art education studios, a library and archives, and special events that connect visitors with art and culture. The gallery’s mission is to engage diverse audiences through creative experiences and to celebrate Canada’s artistic heritage in a welcoming public space.
