Uxbridge Secondary School (USS) is a cornerstone of the Durham District School Board, serving the Township of Uxbridge since its original founding as Uxbridge High School in 1872. The current building on Planks Lane, which opened in 1925, has grown significantly through five major additions to accommodate over 1,000 students in Grades 9 through 12. Known as the home of the Uxbridge Tigers, the school boasts a storied athletic program with notable provincial (OFSAA) success in rugby, cross-country running, and volleyball. Academically, USS offers specialized opportunities such as the Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) programs in fields like Environment, Health and Wellness, and Construction, allowing students to gain industry certifications alongside their diploma. The school is deeply integrated into the local community, emphasizing a mission of “Per ardua ad astra” (Through struggle to the stars) while preparing students for diverse pathways in university, college, and the trades.
