Profile
The Scugog Island Water Treatment Plant (WTP) is a critical infrastructure facility for the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation (MSIFN), located near Port Perry in the Durham Region. Completed around 2020 as part of a major $10-million investment, the plant was designed to provide a long-term solution to chronic water quality issues and successfully ended a decade-long boil-water advisory for the community. The facility utilizes advanced gravity filtration technology provided by Napier-Reid, with a capacity of approximately 1,000 cubic metres per day, and is engineered to remove more than 99.99% of bacteria and viruses from groundwater sources. Beyond producing safe drinking water, the project included the expansion of the community’s piped distribution system and the addition of fire protection capacity, ensuring the health, safety, and sustainable growth of the First Nation for decades to come.
